PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To assist in providing an appropriate education program to all special needs students in the Judson Independent School District.  To assure that all students have access to curriculum and instruction that meets their needs and to provide professional support to the educators who teach these students.  Coordination of programs, budget and compliance monitoring of state and federal requirements.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Valid Mid-Management or Principal Certification or Special Education Supervisor certification
  • Master’s degree in the field of education or a related area
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

 

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Knowledge of funds management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement staff development
  • Knowledge of public laws and district procedures regarding special education students and programs
  • Knowledge of curriculum (PK – 12)

 

Experience:

  • 7 years teaching experience
  • More than 10 years’ experience in Special Education Administration

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Monitor the implementation of special education programs on campuses
  • Work with campuses to initiate programs to improve scores on AYP and AEIS reports
  • Plan and implement training for campus personnel involved in decision-making for special education students
  • Monitor and assist with special education program development, implementation, evaluation and refinement of assigned special education component
  • Provide support for the special education instructional program, district-wide
  • Oversee budget expenditures for special education program initiatives, assuring compliance with guidelines and the appropriate allocation of resources
  • Assist in the gathering of data needed to complete the yearly budget applications
  • Monitor the campus-based and department inventories and budgets and maintain required documentation
  • Collect and analyze special education statistical data for use in data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with other departments in analyzing reports, such as AYP and AEIS, in order to implement special education initiatives
  • Assist in the design, coordination, implementation and evaluation of departmental and district projects
  • Assist in designing, developing, coordinating and facilitating department goals and initiatives
  • Assist with the collection of data required for reports to OCR, OSEP, etc.
  • Develop and conduct training for special education teachers who are new to the JISD, in cooperation with the Professional Development Department
  • Up-date and distribute, as needed, Operating Guidelines and handbooks for special education personnel and campus administrators
  • Up-date and distribute, as needed, the State assessment information for special education personnel and campus administrators
  • Provide periodic presentations on topics of interest, which increase professional skills, for special education teachers in all instructional settings
  • Other duties as assigned

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
