PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Principal provides instructional leadership through planning, organizing, directing, supervising and evaluating the instructional program and personnel.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Valid Texas Mid-Management/Principal Certification
  • Master’s Degree
  • Current certification in Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) certified within 90 days
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years secondary administrative experience
  • Secondary teaching experience required

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provides instructional leadership, resources, and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals and ensures that program activities are related to program outcomes
  • Determines and builds a common vision with staff for school improvement; directs planning activities and implements programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of mission
  • Defines expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public
  • Observes employee performance, records observations, and conducts evaluation conferences with all staff
  • Makes recommendations relative to personnel, placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal
  • Complies with District policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools
  • Develops and administers the budget based upon documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs; implements programs within budget limits, maintains fiscal control; accurately reports fiscal information
  • Uses information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the District appraisal process, evaluate feedback from line supervisors and professional development programs to improve performance
  • Provides leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursues professional development activities, disseminates ideas and information to other professionals
  • Observes professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Educators code of Ethics
  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs 
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  • Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian, instructional aides, clerical support staff and auxiliary personnel.

 

Equipment Used:

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment

 

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

 

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
  • Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds

 

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
  • Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
  • Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
